East Frisia up close
Don't miss out on the opportunity to experience the unique UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Wadden Sea up close: on a guided dune and mudflat hike.
During the time when the sea recedes for a few hours each day, you can get up close and personal with shells, mud, and lugworms and get to know this exciting habitat. But be sure to take part in a professional tour with an experienced guide!

Encountering the seals
The Wadden Sea on the North Sea coast of Lower Saxony is protected as a World Heritage Site. It is home to a wide variety of habitats and a multitude of creatures – the best known of which is probably the seal.
At the Norddeich Seal Sanctuary, orphaned seals are raised in order to protect the animals and their population and to research their habitat. Experience firsthand how the pups, all of which are lovingly given names, are cared for, raised, and returned to the North Sea.

Family and wellness pool
In May 2013, the Aurich leisure pool "De Baalje" opened with over 5,000 m² of sports, fitness, and family facilities and a sauna area.
The year-round concept, consisting of an indoor area and an outdoor pool, allows for swimming enjoyment in every season. High-quality infusions take place in the four saunas. The steam bath, sauna garden, and modern relaxation area invite you to unwind.

Experience nature in East Frisia – explore the region from a unique perspective by canoe and bicycle! Get to know East Frisia with its rivers, canals, and lakes, and enjoy the tranquility of the unspoiled nature in some places.
One of 18 paddle and pedal stations is located just a few minutes' walk away at Aurich harbor. Detailed signage for the waterways and cycle paths guides you from station to station.

East Frisia has shrunk
At Miniaturland in Leer, our region and its numerous attractions are depicted on a scale of 1:87 and are highly recognizable.
On a steadily growing area of more than 1,500 square meters, you can experience the regions of Emsland, East Frisia, Oldenburg, Ammerland, and—new since 2017—Berlin in a unique model landscape.

What must be done must be done: Tea time
The extensive collection at the Bünting Tea Museum tells the story of tea from the 17th century to the present day. Learn everything there is to know about tea —from cultivation to transportation along global trade routes.
The world-famous East Frisian tea culture naturally plays a major role. Our recommendation: take part in one of the exciting events. During tea time or the tea ceremony, for example, you can enjoy authentic East Frisian tea for yourself.

People & Art
One of the "most important and beautiful museums in northern Germany" is located in Emden, East Frisia. The Kunsthalle Emden was founded by Henri and Eske Nannen with the vision of creating a "lively meeting place" between people and art. The generous benefactor Otto van de Loo also found his place here.
Since 1986, the museum has continued to develop steadily thanks to civic engagement and public and private support from many quarters. Up to five major exhibitions per year on topics related to modern and contemporary art are held in the approximately 1,700 square meter space. In addition, a changing selection from the 1,500-piece collection is on display.

Stories and Treasures
The East Frisian State Museum in Emden is the most important art and cultural history museum in East Frisia. Covering an area of around 2,700 m², it houses significant archaeological finds such as the bog body known as the "Bernuthsfeld Man," as well as the council silver of the city of Emden and paintings from the Dutch school.
Other attractions include the New Gallery with art from the 20th and 21st centuries, a large number of historical land and sea maps, and one of the most extensive coin collections in the northwest. A special feature is the armory, which reflects the armament of a northwestern German city in the 16th/17th century. It is the largest city-owned collection of weapons from the early modern period in Germany.

Let's Bloc!
The former leisure center of the German Armed Forces, the Ostfrieslandhaus, has been transformed into a modern climbing hall. Now it's no longer about bowling and children's discos, but rather: Let's climb! Since 2017, the Ostfrieslandhaus has been home to the Kluntje Boulderhalle Aurich – East Frisia's first bouldering hall.
There are over 200 routes of all difficulty levels on several hundred square meters of climbing wall. Climbers of all ages, from 5 years old and up, can really let off steam here.

From tree to tree
An adrenaline rush is guaranteed at the climbing forest in Aurich. Young and old alike can put their climbing skills to the test at over 70 stations. In addition to the beginner's course for everyone aged 3 and above, there are six courses of varying degrees of difficulty, which are restricted according to age and height. A sophisticated safety system ensures safe climbing.
The well-stocked kiosk on site sells pizza and other tasty treats. The adjacent children's playground and the nearby "Eierbergen" hills are also ideal for playing, running around, and picnicking. The forest offers everything you need for a successful day trip, especially with children!

Early Romantic park
The Lütetsburg Castle Park is known as one of the few remaining examples of an early Romantic-style park and the largest private English landscape garden. It was created as the life's work of Imperial Baron Edzard Mauritz zu Inn- und Knyphausen in the middle of the treeless landscape of East Frisia, just 8 km from the North Sea coast.
Covering an area of approximately 30 hectares, visitors to the park are enchanted not only by the magnificent old rhododendrons and azaleas. Hidden historical treasures provide a glimpse into the East Frisian family history of the castle's owners.
