Castle Residence

History

Our building was the sovereign residence of the Count of Oldenburg.

It was a place of meeting and ruling for the “Tom Brook” chieftain family.

Our building became quarters for the castle guards (pikemen).
The “Pikierhof” was renamed the “Piqueurhof” due to French influence.

Following a severe fire, the building was reconstructed by master builder Johann Wempe – an ambitious fresh start after a fateful end to this chapter.

The hotel operations ran under the name “Piqueurhof”. The establishment has long been considered the finest in town. After being taken over by new owners, it became the “Hotel Am Schloss Aurich”.

Our hotel is considered a masterpiece of architecture, the finest hotel in the surrounding area, and, with its listed facade, one of the most beautiful buildings in Aurich.

Acquisition and Preservation

In 2012, two local entrepreneurial families from Aurich, the Krügers and the Bohlens, decided to take it over from insolvency. By doing so, they saved the hotel from being sold off and ensured its preservation for the city and the people of Aurich.

The hotel is jointly managed by both families across two generations. Entrepreneur Theo Bohlen and his two sons, Stefan & Arne Bohlen, who also jointly run the company B-Plast 2000, hold shares. Hermann Krüger from the company Krüger Elektrotechnik in Aurich-Großefehn brought his daughter Alina Krüger into the business. She manages day-to-day operations in her position as hotel director.

John F. Kennedy

Kennedy would praise our owner-families. Professionals in their respective fields have been hired across all departments.
Each one exceptionally competent in their area: kitchen, service, reception, and housekeeping.

The Krüger & Bohlen family

At this point, we would like to thank all our loyal and hardworking employees at reception, in service, in the kitchen, in housekeeping, and in facility management. These ladies and gentlemen strive day after day with first-class service to provide our guests with an entirely comfortable and enjoyable stay.

The Castle Residence

After a construction phase of over two years, we have finally completed the Schlossresidenz. Featuring five stories above ground and an underground parking garage, it is located on the site of the former Aurich post office and will form the "gateway to the city center" in the future.

Drawing on the extensive personal travel experiences of our owner families, a high-quality construction concept was developed. Great emphasis was placed on exceptional quality: The 41 rooms and suites are generously sized, fully air-conditioned, and modernly equipped. The room walls are exceptionally soundproofed, and numerous rooms feature a private balcony. Our guests can choose from 5 different room categories.

For the exterior walls, the choice fell on an innovative monolithic brick wall system, which ensures a particularly pleasant indoor climate. The facade of the Schlossresidenz is finished in white plaster, perfectly complementing the Hotel Am Schloss Aurich to form a harmonious castle ensemble.
