This is where tradition and modernity meet.
A house with history
From the residence of the Count of Oldenburg to the Hotel Am Schloss Aurich.
Past and present come together in a building with character: from the historic main building to the modern castle residence, the history of Aurich is reflected here in a special way. Learn all about the origins, style, and tradition of this unique place.
History
12th century
Our house was the official residence of the Count of Oldenburg.
14th century
For the ch ieftain family "Tom Brook," it was a place of meeting and ruling.
1710
Our house became a place of accommodation for castle guards (piqueurs). Due to French influence, the "Pikierhof" became the "Piqueurhof."
1885
The building was rebuilt by master builder Johann Wempe after a severe fire —an ambitious new beginning after a fateful end to this story.
1966–2012
The hotel operated under the name "Piqueurhof." The establishment has always been considered the "best in town." After the new owners took over, it became the "Hotel Am Schloss Aurich."
Until today
Our hotel is considered a masterpiece of architecture, the finest hotel in the area and, with its listed façade, one of the most beautiful buildings in Aurich.

Acquisition and preservation
Rescue of the hotel
In 2012, the two Aurich-based entrepreneurial families Krüger and Bohlen decided to take it over from insolvency. In doing so, they saved the hotel from being sold off and made it possible to preserve it for the city and the people of Aurich.
The hotel is jointly managed by both families – spanning two generations. Entrepreneur Theo Bohlen and his two sons Stefan & Arne Bohlen, who also jointly manage the company B-Plast 2000, hold shares. Hermann Krüger from the company Krüger Elektrotechnik in Aurich-Großefehn brought his daughter Alina Krüger into the business. She manages the day-to-day operations in the position of hotel manager.
"A wise man must be wise enough to hire people who are much wiser than he is."
John F. Kennedy
Kennedy would praise our owner families. Professionals in their field were hired in all departments. Each one was exceptionally competent in their area: kitchen, service, reception, and housekeeping.

“A hotel without staff? Unthinkable! What would we be without our team!?”
The Krüger & Bohlen families
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our loyal and hard-working staff at reception, in service, in the kitchen, in housekeeping, and in building services. These ladies and gentlemen strive day after day to provide first-class service and ensure that our guests enjoy a comfortable and pleasant stay.
Since September 2021
The Castle Residence
After more than two years of construction, we have finally completed the Schlossresidenz. With five above-ground floors and an underground parking garage, it is located on the site of the former Aurich post office and will form the "gateway to the city center" in the future.

A high-quality construction concept has been developed based on the extensive travel experiences of our owner families. Great importance was attached to exceptional quality: the 41 rooms and suites are spacious, fully air-conditioned, and equipped with modern amenities. The room walls are specially soundproofed, and many rooms have their own balcony. Our guests can choose from 5 different room categories.
For the exterior walls, a decision was made to use an innovative monolithic brick wall system, which ensures a special indoor climate. The facade of the castle residence is plastered white, creating the perfect castle ensemble together with the Hotel Am Schloss Aurich.
